About me
My name is Lina Rawlings; I am a Professor of Communication Studies. I teach Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Organizational Communication, and Group Communication, to name a few. In addition to Pikes Peak State College, I also teach at the University of Colorado and Purdue Global.
I have a Ph.D. in Communication and recently published my research, which explored interpersonal communication interactions in social media environments. The title of my research was “The Power of the “Like:” A Quantitative Study on the Facebook Emoji as Social Support.” My professional background is in corporate training and higher education, where I spent many years as a Director of Admission for for-profit Universities. I am passionate about student success, human communication, and the personal and professional development of others.
I am a married mom with two small kiddos. My daughter is 8, and my son is 5 years old. We are an active, busy family. Our days are filled with learning, play dates, and parks. I am a portrait photographer, but due to our busy schedules, it is now just a hobby.
As a speaker for this session, I am excited to help you learn the value and importance of interpersonal communication, its concepts, and how it can be applied. Please consider me a point of contact for any questions, curiosities, and mentorship.
