About me
I like to tinker with certain kinds of innovation to better engage our students in the learning process... for example:
~ how to use technology (d2L) to record and spot trends in assessing students' performance
~ how to employ a VARIETY of teaching techniques and assignments as an equity practiceI CARE about students and often engage them in conversations well beyond the classroom. This leads to a variety of student learning groups (i.e. many informal Philosophy discussion groups meeting semi-regularly after class to a more formal PHI club or Global Village that meet weekly and eventually some mentoring opps).
~ I love HIPS (high impact practices) and have tons of stories in employing them in ALL of my courses!
~ I am also into gamification and used it to garner a couple state Innovation grants (over $300K) that developed an online learning ETHICS game (entitled CHAPTERS: Recovering the Lost books of Wisdom) - check it out at eg.pikespeak.edu
